New Ross, May 31 -- Funeral services were held here this afternoon for Mrs. Sarah Jane Powell, 86, who died at her home near here at 11:25 p.m. Saturday, in charge of Rev. S. G. Smith. Pallbearers were Charles Sparks, David Sparks, Adrian Sparks, William Sparks, Donald Trosper and Paul French. Mrs. Donald Trosper and Mrs. Paul French were flower bearers. Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Routh sang three selections, "Only a Shadow," "Going Down the Valley" and "God will Take Care of You." They were accompanied by Miss Reva Urban on the accordion. Burial was made in New Ross cemetery. Mrs, Powell died of pneumonia after a short illness. She was born in Montgomery county, April 11, 1851, a daughter of William Henry and Eliza Bowen Harris, and had spent the last thirty years in this vicinity. The deceased was the widow of James William Powell, who died Aug. 25, 1934. They were married at Shannondale, May 28, 1871. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. C. R. Sparks, Ladoga; one son, Jesse Powell, Buffalo, N.Y., six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Nellie Rhinehart, expired July 1, 1895.
